Interview: Rosalía

VG26 launches today!

The newest shade of VIVA GLAM Lipstick VG26, a fiery orange-red, launches today and here, global ambassador Rosalía talks all things M·A·C, VIVA GLAM, makeup and using her influence for good…

On being an ambassador for M·A·C VIVA GLAM… “It means a lot, I didn’t doubt this decision for a second. M•A•C has always been my favorite. It’s an honour to be a part of this campaign and to be able to collaborate with them. The way M•A•C is using their platform, and how they have dedicated $10 Million dollars to 250 organizations on the frontlines and serving communities affected by COIVD19; there is nothing more important than to help. I feel very grateful and honored to be a part of a campaign that is helping the world we are living in. It is also my goal and very important to me to help M•A•C spread awareness about the health and rights for women and girls. My team is made up of women, and I feel like it’s very important that we always try to empower more women. I feel very grateful to be a part of this and to celebrate with M•A•C in such a beautiful way.”

On creating the M·A·C Viva Glam 26 Lipstick colour… “I have always been very excited about red, it’s one of my favorite colours. It represents strength and Flamenco culture. Flamenco has always been connected to red and I have always loved Ruby Woo, it’s such a big reference for me all these years. I was very excited to create something special like Viva Glam 26. It’s a special colour red.”

On makeup… “Makeup is always very important to me and makes me strong the moment that I perform. It makes me perform differently. I love experimenting with colours, textures and the same way I love playing with anything else because it’s visual. I feel like makeup is a way that I can communicate with myself and my fans. When I used to experiment with makeup, I didn’t even know what I was doing, I was just having fun with my sister. We used to use my mum’s makeup! When I was a teenager, I used to do my makeup for my shows and getting ready was a ritual. That’s part of my memory with makeup, and I have always been a fan of M•A•C.”

On individualism and feminism… “For me it is always about strength. For instance, my mum, sister and grandma [are] very important to me. I look up to and admire past Viva Glam spokespeople like Lil’ Kim and Missy Elliott. I always try to find that strength and power when I perform on stage. I project myself and hope to inspire other women too.”

On music… “I don’t think in music about genres, I always think about artists. I really love every kind of music and I feel my art reflects that. Flamenco is my main inspiration and base, and it’s the music that I love the most. I try to get inspired with a lot of styles but I never think there is a genre or style is better than others. My music has all different influences!”
